The directorate of Postgraduate Affairs is under supervision of Vice President of Scientific & Postgraduate Affairs. The main objective of this directorate is to raise the scientific qualification of the staff members who are working in different intr/national sectors.

The Postgraduate Affairs at the University of Zakho are the backbone of the university and have contributed to the qualification of successive university faculty members. The graduate system at the University has produced specialized generations in several fields: Science, laboratory and chemical analysis, biology, administration, engineering, education, languages, environment and nature, and qualified human resources in the various branches of science and knowledge.

About University of Zakho 

The University of Zakho dates back to the year 2005 and within the framework of the directives and concerns of His Excellency Masoud Barzani, President of the Kurdistan Regional Government, and Mr. Nechirvan Barzani, Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Regional Government, made a decision to lay the foundation stone of the College of Education and the College of Commerce (during the fifth cabinet) in a university campus in Zakho, which at that time officially belonged to the University of Duhok. 

On 8th of July 2010, a formal order was issued to establish a university in Zakho by the Presidency of the Council of Ministers in KRG (sixth cabinet). The structures of the University of Zakho for the academic year 2016-2017 are as follows:

• Faculty of Science/ 6 Scientific Departments
• Faculty of Humanities/ 6 Scientific Departments
• Faculty of Education/ 4 Scientific Departments
• College of Administration and Economics/ 3 Scientific Departments
• College of Engineering/ 2 Scientific Departments
• College of Basic Education/ 5 Scientific Departments

The University of Zakho formed a program to help raise the scientific level according to international standards through the development of the program, the implementation of health instruction and to sustain the application of science and quality assurance. These are part of the policy of the Kurdistan Regional Government. For example, the perpetuation of the programs to send hundreds of students and professors to universities outside the region and the developed countries to obtain advanced degrees (Masters and PHD) in various sciences and each according to their terms of reference to be the basis for the change and development of a scientific point in the Kurdistan region. 

The educational programs at the University of Zakho include bachelor's and master's degree and doctoral programs. These programs give the graduates a wide range of knowledge and skills.
